Women Behind the Music: Lizi Lively

“Well, I had to set up behind the British Pub, which, as you know, has all the space in the world,” Lizi Lively, wife of Wobbly Toms musician Zachary Lively, says with a degree of sarcasm. The space she refers to is no wider than an alleyway, and patrons coming outside for a smoke or bathroom break or going into the pub from the parking lot often congest it. I had about two and a half hours to get a full face of makeup on eight boys who were busy setting up their equipment and drinking. I did all the skeletons first, so whenever I was done with one person, whoever was walking by next, I grabbed and sat them down in my chair. My favorite skeleton face was Dave, I think.

“And then, of course, Richard was the last to get made up, being as how I had to cover him with bright red pigment, which I got all over me. That stuff doesn’t come out! He made an amazing devil. I was impressed that all that makeup was relatively sweat resistant.”

Like many other Indie bands, the Wobbly Toms are a family.  Lizi Lively is not the only one who offers her support to the rest of the band. The other band wives and many of their friends are also a part of this “Wobbly” family. According to Zachary, the Wobbly Toms “work out shows/rehearsals around each other – whether that be anniversaries, birthdays, what have you. If we play on a significant other’s birthday, you know that we’ve all (meaning the whole group) made sure it was cool with everyone involved. On the other hand, if someone needs to take care of stuff at home, we’re all cool with that, too.”

Zachary adds, “Love trumps music.”

Bravo! This is a terrific article! The world could use a little more promotion for good couples who love and support each other in life and art!
